Mid-year enrollment for levels Intermediate Ballet 1 and up are considered on a case by case basis and are subject to available space in the appropriate level.
The minimum age for studying ballet at Central Oregon School of Ballet is 5 years old. Pre-Ballet is designed as a class for students ages 5 – 6 with little to no previous ballet experience. There are 2 separate Pre-Ballet classes. To maintain quality of instruction each class is capped at 12 students. Enrollment for the year begins in June and closes September 30th.
Beginning Ballet 1 – 3
There are 3 levels of Beginning Ballet. Pre-Ballet or at least 1 year previous ballet experience is required for placement in Beginning Ballet 1 – 3. Each level meets once a week for 1 hour. Age ranges from 6 – 11. Enrollment for the year begins in June and closes September 30th.
Beginning Ballet 7+
This class is for students 7 and older who are new to ballet or who have had significant time away from ballet studies. The goal of the class is to get students caught up to their general peer group over the course of the year and placed in the appropriate level at the end of the season. Enrollment for the year begins in June and closes September 30th.
Intermediate Ballet 1 – 4
At the Intermediate level students begin a more intense study of Ballet. Students move between the levels based on mastery of technique in each level as opposed to years in ballet or peer group. Intermediate 1 begins Pre-Pointe work. Students who show the correct physical development and age begin the study of Pointe Work in Intermediate 2. Students in Intermediate 3 and 4 have increased time in class, meeting multiple times a week and begin rehearsal for main stage productions outside of class in addition to regular class work. Intermediate levels have increasingly larger amounts of responsibility and dancing as they move through the levels. Placement in Intermediate level classes is by audition only. Enrollment for the year begins in June and closes September 30th. Mid-year enrollment is considered on a case by case basis and is subject to available space in the appropriate level.
Students in the Advanced Level at COSB are required to meet at least 5 days a week. It is reserved for students who have excelled in previous levels of the school. There is an increased emphasis in artistry, theatricality and musicality in addition to advanced technical work en pointe and the study of classical ballet variations. It is a closed class, Director approval is required for drop-ins. Placement in the advanced class is by audition only.
